Issue 1: Not For Profit

Not For profit (check out these companies)

Milk and Honey is an emerging non profit based out of Long
Beach, Ca. Their aim is to bring to light the  atrocity that is the
sex trade in India. Cofounder, Jordan Lovells, visited India
on a skateboarding trip last year where he saw first hand,
minors being sold for next to nothing. A deep emotional
weight was put on his heart. So much so that after recounting
the story to cofounder Meredith Ambruso, the two knew that
they were doing the right thing by starting Milk and Honey.
The company sells apparel, and has had two fund raiser
concerts (LA & San Diego) in which proceeds go to funding
homes where women who have escaped the brothels can go
to seek shelter and counselling. I was lucky enough to have
the night off and was able to attend the San Diego show.
Musical acts included skateboarders Leo Romero and Josh
Harmony showcasing their folk music skills. Tons of artists,
including Ed and Deanna Templeton, have contributed works
to benefit the cause and with a $5 donation there was all the
PBRs and Keystones you could handle. The surfboard
shaping studio that the show was held at was packed from
wall to wall with people taking in the art and music. Milk and
Honey has scheduled their 3rd benefit show set to take place
in Long Beach, CA. For updates and to donate head to

Brokenglass Surfboards is a new non profit based out of the Inland
Empire. What started as a couple friends shaping boards in their free
time has turned into something super positive. Brokenglass has
been holding raffles for surfboards at local events such as the Redlands
Bike Classic and the Riverside Iris Festival. The proceeds from these
raffles are donated to the Surf Rider Foundation whose aim is to conserve
natural brakes and beaches in over 18 different countries. You can keep
up with events and what the shapers themselves are up to on your favorite social
networking site or by checking out their web site. www.brokenglasssurfboards.com
